Immaculee Ilibagiza

Imagine hiding to save your life- for three months- hidden in a 3ft x4ft church bathroom with four other women while all around you 750,000 people are being murdered. Immaculee Ilibagiza entered that bathroom in Rwanda in 1994 at 115lbs and left nearly starved to death at 65lbs, only to discover that her entire family and most everyone she knew had been murdered. Its a horror none of us will ever be able to comprehend. During that time, she met the living God and discovered his meaning and purpose in all that grief and terror. It is a story of amazing forgiveness. Now a devout Catholic, Immaculee has written a New Your Times bestseller, "Left to Tell" and now speaks all over the world about her experience and her faith.
I was invited to photograph Imaculee as she spoke to an audience of supporters of 'Trading for Treasures' and the Sonrise School for ophans of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. As I attempted to capture Immaculee speaking, I was captivated by her story and forever changed because of it.

Here are my favorite 12 images of Imaculee and a link to the 60Minutes broadcast from 1997. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=3004020n&tag=related;photovideo
